General rules and info

  • Please do not enter the dance room or distract dancers while class is in session.

  • Children should not be left alone at the studio without supervision before or after classes. We ask that Parents/Guardians remain during the class if their child is unable to use the restroom without help.

  • Please be respectful of other dancers, parents/guardians, and staff at all times. Anything to the contrary will not be tolerated, and you may be asked to leave.

  • Students are allowed to have water bottles in the dance rooms with the understanding that they will be left on the side of the room against the wall. Absolutely no food will be allowed in dance rooms.

  • Classes run from September through the date of the recital. We do offer summer dance camps separately.

  • We follow the Southwick Public School System calendar for holidays and vacations.

  • In case of snow or bad weather, please call the studio, or check this website or our Facebook page: The Dance Slipper. We DO NOT necessarily cancel classes when Southwick Public Schools have snow days or early releases.

  • It is the sole discretion of the faculty to place students into classes based on their interests, ability, and attitude. This alos applies to solos, duos, trios, and company classes.

Tuition

  • Tuition is based on a yearly schedule of classes, allowing 2 weeks for snow days and cancellations. NO refunds on classes missed.

  • Monthly Tuition is due the first of each month. We allow a 15 day grace period, any payment not received by the 15th will incur a late fee.

  • If payment is not received on time, a $25 late fee will be applied to account balances for each month overdue. If account balances become more than 1 month overdue, the student will be asked to observe the class and not be allowed to participate.

  • A charge of $35 will be applied to all account balances for returned checks. After 2nd returned check, tuition must be paid in cash or by credit.

Attendance

All students are expected to keep good attendance records. Students who are repeatedly absent, will be asked to attend more regularly or, be dropped from the class. Improper and sporadic attendance creates a difficult learning atmosphere for all parties involved.

Bulletin Board

There is a bulletin board located in the waiting room of the studio.  All notices for upcoming events and dates are posted there.  Please check the bulletin board on a regular basis to ensure you are aware of any information involving your child.

Pictures

Every year pictures are taken for the recital. All students are to be present. The date will be posted on the website and bulletin board around march. Pictures are usually taken sometime in April. There will be an additional day following picture day when you can come to the studio and view the photos. Parents may purchase photos at that time.

Recital Tickets

The recital and rehearsal will be held at Suffield High School in Suffield, CT. There will be a full dress rehearsal on Friday, May 29th at 4 pm. This means that all studentsshould be in full costume with the appropriate makeup, hair, and shoes. The recital will be held on Saturday, May 30th at 11 am sharp.  The recital is reserve seating, sold on a first come first serve basis.  The date and time tickets go on sale will be posted at the studio and on this website.

Five, Seven, and Ten-Year Awards

There are special awards presented to students who have danced at The Dance Slipper for five, seven, and ten-years consecutively. These awards are presented during the recital.

Attire

  • All hair must be pulled back in a ponytail or a bun.

  • All classes apart from ballet - Easy to move in athletic clothing, no jeans or non athletic clothing.

  • Ballet - Leotard and lights

    • Dance Shoes:
      - Acrobat/Gymnastic - Barefoot
      - Ballet - Pink ballet shoes
      - Jazz/Contemporary/Modern - Start barefoot then consult instructor if shoes are necessary.
      - Tap - White tap shoes for kinder dance, black flat CC09, teens/adults consult with instructor if different.

Standard Shoes

Acrobat / Gymnastics - barefoot
Ballet - pink ballet shoes
Hip Hop - Sneakers
Tap - White tap shoes for children, black flat heeled for adults
Jazz / Lyrical / Modern - nude colored footundeez or dance paws (at discretion of the teacher)

Snow Days

If classes are cancelled due to weather, updates will be provided by calling the studio for a recorded message, checking the home page of this website or like us on Facebook for updates.

Studio Closed

The studio will be closed on the following dates:

October 10th (Columbus Day)
October 31st (Halloween) 
November 23rd - 27th (Thanksgiving Week) 
December 23rd - January 1st (Christmas and New Years)
February 20th - 24th (Winter Vacation)
April 17th - 21st (Spring Vacation)

Class Size

If there are less than 5 students in a class, that class could be cancelled and the students placed in a different class or the class time will be reduced to 1/2 hour.
